Did not thrill me

Sometimes, things just don't work out.

And thus is the case for Squabbalogic's THRILL ME. A one act musical about gay lovers from Chicago in the 1920s who murdered a boy named Billy? Bobby? It didn't seem to matter.

Now what was really disappointing here was not the production. It was the MUSICAL itself. I have no idea how it won best new musical at the something-a-la-something musical awards. maybe it was a slow year for musical theatre.

The point is, the cast and crew did everything they could to make this show shmick, polished and other adjectives i'm too tired to think up right now. The material just didn't THRILL ME. Nor did the plot to be honest. I mean, i get it. Two gay guys in the 1920s, with one doing anything to hold onto his lover at all costs...yadayada. Whatever.

As always, Squabalogic is doing Australian audiences proud with their selection of off-broadway material, no production company would even punt a cent on. A bad musical (for me- most of the crowd enjoyed it with gusto) but with excellent production values. Eh.
